Counselling/Therapy

What is counselling or therapy all about?

We understand that sometimes life can be overwhelming and emotional issues can be tough to handle on your own. That’s where counselling comes in – a caring and compassionate therapist is there to listen and support you in finding ways to overcome your challenges.

What can counselling help with?

It can be difficult to navigate life’s challenges on our own. That’s why therapy or counselling can be a valuable resource for many people. It’s important to remember that everyone’s journey is different, and what works for one person may not work for another. Sometimes, all we need is someone to talk to in a safe, non-judgmental space. This can help us feel less alone and more supported. If you’re going through a tough time, know that seeking help is a sign of strength and courage.

Information for Parents/Carers

  • Although you might think that counselling would be really helpful for your child, they may be very unsure or don’t feel that they want/need support at this time.
  • It is very important that your child makes their own decision and chooses to come into counselling, if it is not their decision then it might not be helpful and may cause even more distress for both you and your child.
  • You can find some helpful ideas about how to talk about counselling to your child, to help explain why you think it might be a good idea to get support and to encourage your child to make their own decision about whether counselling is right for them at this time.

Other Support Options

School or College Support Services

Consider reaching out to your school or college for available support resources, such as Mental Health Support teams or pastoral support options.

Decider Skills

The Decider Skills program is rooted in the principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy. Throughout the course, we will work together to learn a series of life skills that can help us understand and manage the various emotions we experience. These skills will enable us to better tolerate emotional distress and develop healthier coping mechanisms, particularly when dealing with anxiety, low mood, and other challenging behaviors.
