I guess you are wondering why we are writing a blog about Chinese New Year?
Well, there are a few reasons… it is good to know about a wide range of cultures and traditions, and it is important to know the meaning of different events and symbols.
Chinese New Year is an opportunity to welcome in luck for the year ahead and holds a lot of symbolism. The Chinese Year of 2025 is the Year of the Snake. For some, the year of the snake is a symbol for wisdom, elegance, and transformation.
And that can trigger thoughts about transformation.
Transformation is another word for growth or change. In nature, animals and plants grow and change all the time.
You could think of:
Caterpillars, turning into butterflies.
Or
Acorns, that grow into oak trees.
Or
Rivers, as they start off small at the top of the hill and get bigger and wider as they get closer to the sea and change the land around them.
Or
Plants that bud and bloom.
Or
People, who learn and experience new things, or meet new people, or see new places, and grow.
So, as people gather to celebrate Chinese New Year, maybe this is a change for you to think about what the year of the snake means for you. Maybe, you would like to think about what you would like to see transformed in your life this year.
It might be something small, or something big.
Perhaps it reflects a change in your family, your location, your friends, your body.
The key thing is it is important and unique and personal to you.
Sometimes, we need help to change and transform what is happening in our life. It can be that working with a professional who is trained to help you set goals and develop skills is what you need to grow and be well. That is ok.
