Monday-Friday 5pm-11pm, Weekends & Bank Holidays 9am-11pm. Between 11pm-9am please contact NHS 111, option 2, to access mental health crisis support.

In an emergency: If you or someone else has seriously injured themselves, taken an overdose or are on the point of doing so, call 999 or go directly to A&E.

Are you feeling stressed about exams?

Don’t worry – Stress is a normal body and mind response to an event that your mind sees as a threat. It comes from our caveman days and is part of our Fight-Flight response to keep us safe.

But – sometimes, our stress response can go into over drive. This tips the balance from stress being helpful and adaptive, to being harmful.

 

 

 

It might help to remember there are two types of stress.

So, what can you do when you experience distress?

It might help to tune into your mind and body, and notice what you feel at different levels of stress. Some people call this scaling. An example is below. You might want to do this by yourself, or work through it with someone else.
