World Sleep Day
Today, Friday 18th March 2022, is World Sleep Day.
The World Sleep Society says that “The slogan for 2022 is Quality Sleep, Sound Mind, Happy World. Sleep is a foundational pillar of health, and the quality of your sleep can impact not just your physical energy in the morning but your mental and emotional health, too. Join us this year in promoting quality sleep worldwide.”
Here at Barnardo’s Healthy Minds Wiltshire, we truly understand and value the importance of a relaxing bedtime routine in order to optimise our sleep. This looks different for everybody but you may consider having time away from screens late in the evening, doing something that makes you feel relaxed like reading, colouring, listening to podcasts or audio books and creating a calm environment to go to bed.
The Sleep Charity offer some fantastic information, support and courses available to professionals and parents/carers to help us get to grips with this very important topic. You can find more information on their website.
Perhaps, over the weekend, you could consider your sleep;
– When is it good?
– When is it not so good?
– Is it something that I make a priority?
– How do I feel when I wake up?
– Do I have a consistent bedtime routine?
– Is my bedroom a calming environment?
– Do I go to bed at the same time each night?
By answering these questions, you may find small areas for improvement in your sleep! Good luck!
